The Solomon Islands stands apart in history, as it will proudly host the Pacific Games for the first time since hosting the inaugural Pacific Mini Games in Honiara in 1981.
From 19th November to 2nd December 2023 the Solomon Islands will welcome 5000 elite athletes, coaches, VIPs, officials, referees, umpires, medical practitioners, media personnel, and broadcasters for this celebration of sporting excellence through Pacific spirit and national unity.
The Sol2023 XVII Pacific Games promise to be a defining event in the Solomon Islands’ history, as the nation seeks to overcome the effect of the deadly COVID-19 pandemic and produce an event that will capture the imagination and interest of not just their people, but of the entire Pacific and beyond.
The theme of the Sol2023 XVII Pacific Games is CHALLENGE, CELEBRATE, UNITE which provides a powerful message of mobilising communities, athletes, citizens and businesses to use these Games as a catalyst for positive change and activation of the country and its place in the Pacific.
There will also be three Para sports for People with Disability. They are Para Athletics, Para Table Tennis and Para Archery.
The sporting competitions will be held in 12 separate venues which are a combination of refurbishment of existing facilities and brand new stadiums build for the Games.

ONOC at the Games
The ONOC and Pacific Games Council partnership is important as the Pacific Games is used as a Continental games event in the lead up to the Olympic Games in every quadrennial.
ONOC’s support to the Pacific Games has historically been through direct contributions to its members and associate members, and includes, amongst other things, training and development programmes for the Athlete Entourage through our flagship programme, the Oceania Sports Education Programme (OSEP). During the Games, ONOC contributes technically through the Voices of the Athletes (VOA) programme, Medical Services and Poly Clinics, Communications and Media Outreach and participates in both ministerial and side meetings organised to coincide with the Games.
For the Sol23 XVII Pacific Games, ONOC through its secretariat and commissions activates a series of activities under its Games Support Programme Pre-Games, Games and Post-Games.
