Priscilla Tommy's Inspiring Olympic Comeback for Vanuatu

Team Vanuatu's Priscilla Tommy is back at the Olympic Games for the second time after a 16-year hiatus.

Tommy first represented Vanuatu at the Olympic Games Beijing 2008.

After taking a break, the lady from Toba Province made a return to the Solomon Islands 2023 Pacific Games and now, and qualified for Paris 2024.

Tommy was grateful to have spent some time preparing with a fellow Table Tennis player from Oceania, Fiji Men’s Singles player Vicky Wu.

“To be representing the Pacific, we help each other, and working together makes a huge difference,” the mother-of-two added.

She took on Team USA’s Amy Yang in the in the Women's Singles Competition.

Tommy, ranked 113th in the world, went down 0-4 to her opponent; ranked 30th.

She said that Paris has been tough, going up against one of the best in the world.

“It was a tough competition, but I'm proud of the experience,” Tommy said.

She encourages young Ni-Vanuatu women and girls who are passionate about Table Tennis to keep going and not give up.

Tommy was also the flag bearer for Vanuatu at the Paris 2024 Opening Ceremony on 26 July, leading Team Vanuatu's Olympic journey in Paris.

The Tables Tennis competition is being held at the South Paris Arena 4.
