Pacific NOCs at the Olympics - 30 July

Our athletes from the Pacific NOCs showcased their talents and determination across various events on 30 July at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Here's a roundup of their performances.

In the Men's 100m Freestyle Preliminary Rounds, Jonathan Silas from Vanuatu gave a commendable performance, finishing 5th in Heat 1 with a time of 59.38 seconds. PNG’s Josh Tarere led the way in Heat 1, securing 1st place with an impressive time of 53.85 seconds. Samoa’s Johann Stickland competed fiercely in Heat 3, clocking a time of 52.94 seconds to finish 8th.

In Judo, Hugo Cumbo from Vanuatu faced a tough opponent in the Men’s -81 kg Elimination Round of 32. Hugo put up a valiant fight but was defeated by Frank de Wit of the Netherlands, who won by Ippon with a Ude-hishigi-juji-gatame.

The Women's Rugby Sevens team from Fiji played a hard-fought match against South Africa in the Placing 11-12 contest. The Fijian team showcased their resilience but narrowly lost with a final score of 15-21.

In other notable matches, the Women's Bronze Medal match saw the USA triumph over Australia with a close score of 14-12. Meanwhile, New Zealand claimed the Gold Medal in a thrilling match against Canada, finishing 19-12. This made it a back-to-back achievement following the gold medal win at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020.
