Our Pacific athletes showcased a lot of grit on 01 August in their respective events at Paris 2024. We had teams competing across swimming and sailing events with notable performances, and personal bests.

Swimming (AQU):
In the Men's 50m Freestyle Heats, Phillip Kinono from the Marshall Islands finished first in Heat 2 with a time of 27.43, setting a new personal best. Jion Hosei of Palau competed in Heat 4, finishing sixth with a time of 25.67, also achieving a personal best. Fiji's David Young delivered an impressive performance, finishing first in Heat 5 with a time of 22.71, setting both a personal best and a new national record for Fiji, breaking his own record set in 2023.
Sailing (SAL):
In the Men's Dinghy, Fiji’s Viliame Ratului and Samoa’s Eroni Leilua both faced tough competition over two races. Ratului ended the day in 43rd place with 86 net points, while Leilua finished 41st with 83 net points.
For the Women's Dinghy, Fiji’s Sophia Morgan and Samoa’s Vaimooia Ripley competed in their first race. Morgan secured 33rd place with 33 net points, and Ripley finished 42nd with 42 net points. Due to scheduling changes, the second race for the Women's Dinghy was postponed to August 2nd, resulting in three races scheduled for the following day.
