The Oceania National Olympic Committees (ONOC) has posthumously awarded the ONOC Legacy Recognition Award to the late Kevan Gosper AO of Australia, honouring his extraordinary and enduring contributions to ONOC and the Olympic Movement.
GUAM - The award was presented during the ONOC President’s Dinner held at the Tasi Ballroom, Hotel Nikko Guam, marking the closing of the 45th ONOC Annual General Assembly.
In delivering the citation, ONOC Secretary General Mr Ricardo Blas reflected on Gosper’s unparalleled impact:
“Kevan Gosper was a towering figure in the Olympic Movement — not just as a former Olympian and one of the longest-serving IOC Members, but as a true friend and champion of Oceania. His vision and commitment helped shape ONOC in its formative years, guiding its growth with wisdom, diplomacy, and unwavering support.”
Gosper served as IOC Vice President and Chair of the IOC Press Commission, where he became a global advocate for transparency, communication, and athlete empowerment. His leadership was instrumental in ensuring that the voices of small island nations were heard and respected within the Olympic family.
“Kevan’s advocacy for equality and opportunity for all athletes, regardless of geography or circumstance, is a legacy that lives on,” added Mr Blas. “He believed deeply in the Olympic values of excellence, respect, and friendship, and dedicated his life to advancing these principles.”
Through this award, ONOC recognises not only a lifetime of service to sport, but also a transformative legacy that continues to inspire athletes, officials, and Olympic institutions across the region.
“In honouring the late Kevan Gosper AO,” said Mr Blas, “we acknowledge a man whose contributions to the Olympic Movement transcended borders and generations. His legacy remains a guiding light for Oceania and the world.”
