The Oceania National Olympic Committees (ONOC) has established a dedicated information desk at the official Pacific Mini Games 2025 hotel, creating a strategic hub for bilateral meetings and strengthening relationships with National Olympic Committee (NOC) leaders from across the region.
Koror, Palau - ONOC Executive Director Inoke Bainimarama explained the significance of this initiative, stating: "During the games we capitalize on the fact that all our members are here, and so we set up an ONOC desk at the official games hotel, Palasia Hotel, where we can do bilateral meetings with our membership. I've been set up here since Monday, meeting NOC leaders at a time convenient to them. We have to respect the fact that they're here to support their teams."
The information desk represents a continuation of ONOC's longstanding tradition of maximizing face-to-face engagement opportunities during major regional sporting events. These strategic meetings allow ONOC leadership to maintain direct communication channels with member organizations while respecting their primary commitment to supporting their athletes and teams.
"This is an opportunity as well for them to ask us for updates as well as give us their updates," Bainimarama noted, highlighting the two-way nature of these engagements.
The meetings build upon momentum from ONOC's recent assembly held just two months prior in May, allowing leaders to provide real-time updates on their strategic plan implementation. This continuity ensures that development initiatives maintain momentum between formal gatherings.
ONOC's strategic plan for 2021-2024 emphasizes four core functions that directly support these bilateral discussions: strengthening NOC services, supporting sporting excellence, cultivating strategic partnerships, and leading by example. The organization's vision of creating "an empowered, innovative sport ecosystem in Oceania for sustainable success" drives these face-to-face engagement opportunities.
The information desk also facilitates connections between NOCs and ONOC's specialised program teams. "Where they need to speak with the program heads directly, we organize for them to meet," Bainimarama explained, demonstrating the desk's role as a coordination hub for technical assistance.
This approach reflects ONOC's commitment to leveraging major sporting events for organizational development. "It's a tradition of us at all games. We even do this in the Olympic Games when we have side meetings with our members, because we all stay in the games hotel together," Bainimarama emphasised.
Through initiatives like the information desk, ONOC demonstrates its commitment to accessible, responsive leadership that prioritises member needs while advancing the broader Olympic Movement throughout Oceania.
