As the world continues to mark International Women's Day (IWD) 2025 this month, the Oceania National Olympic Committees (ONOC) reaffirms its commitment to advancing gender equality in sports leadership. With the International Olympic Committee (IOC) setting a minimum target of 30% female representation in leadership roles, ONOC is striving for a more ambitious goal of 50%.
Recent data on women’s representation across ONOC’s National Olympic Committees (NOCs) highlights significant progress in gender-balanced leadership. ONOC President, Dr. Robin Mitchell, emphasized that while the numbers reflect meaningful progress, there remains a need for continuous efforts to achieve true gender parity.
“We are encouraged by the strides made by our NOCs, particularly those that have surpassed the 50% mark in women's leadership representation. This progress aligns with ONOC’s ongoing commitment to governance reforms, gender equality, and strengthening Oceania’s presence in international Olympic affairs,” Dr. Mitchell stated.
He further urged all NOCs to continue championing women's leadership and to ensure that gender diversity remains a priority in future leadership elections.
As ONOC commemorates International Women’s Day 2025, it celebrates the contributions of women in sports leadership and reaffirms its pledge to build a more inclusive and equitable sporting landscape in the Oceania region.
