22-year old Rckaela Aquino is now ranked 15th top female wrestler in the 53kg weight category after losing to Mongolia’s Bolortuya Bat Ochir by four points in match that lasted just over two minutes in the first round. The Mongolian wrester secured a victory by fall (VFA) just over 2 minutes from the start of the fight. Aquino was Guam's first-ever female to qualify for an Olympics on merit. She won a silver medal at the 2021 African & Oceania Wrestling Olympic Qualification Tournament in Tunisia in April, wrestling at 53 kilograms. The top two wrestlers in each division automatically qualified for Tokyo. Aquino defeated Elisa Rasoanantenaina from Madagascar to advance to the semi-finals, then won by superior decision over Siwar Louati of Tunisia. That guaranteed her a silver medal and a spot on Team Guam for the Tokyo 2021 Olympics. Aquino and her sister, Mia-Lahnee Aquino, have been standout wrestlers for Guam for almost a decade and have represented the island in several regional and world tournaments. Rckaela Aquino is an IOC scholarship recipient through the IOC athletes support group, which underwrites training programs and supports them through Olympic qualifiers.
