Oceania Athletes Provided Updates on Developments within the Olympic Movement and Athlete-Focused Initiatives

Recap of Day Two

The second day of the 6th Oceania Athletes' Forum held in Nadi, Fiji, recorded insightful discussions, and presentations provided valuable updates to athlete leaders from across the region on advancements within both the Oceania National Olympic Committees (ONOC) and the broader International Olympic Committee (IOC).

The forum began with an opening address before exploring the significance of athlete representation within the Olympic Movement.

Updates were outlined on notable upcoming sporting events for the region, including the 2023 Pacific Games in Solomon Islands and the 2024 Micronesian Games in Marshall Islands, in addition to reflections on the recently concluded Olympic Games Paris 2024.

IOC Athletes' Commission Chair, Emma Terho, also addressed the forum, highlighting various initiatives being undertaken by the IOC to further empower athletes globally.

A notable presentation was led by Olympic Solidarity, outlining the various grant programs available to support athlete development initiatives across member nations, with breakout working sessions examining optimal implementation strategies.

The day concluded by focusing on establishing effective Athletes' Commissions to ensure athletes have a meaningful voice in organizational decision-making.

Discussions will continue on Day Three, turning to topics such as safeguarding athlete welfare and developing action plans to advance priorities.
