With less than 15 days to go to the Paris 2024 Games, the Oceania National Olympic Committees (ONOC) is pleased to announce the commencement of the Pre-Games Training Camp (PGTC) in Divonne-les-Bains, hosting over around 40 athletes from 11 Pacific National Olympic Committees (NOCs) in the Oceania region. This initiative aims to provide a training and acclimatizing environment for athletes ahead of the Olympic Games.

ONOC President, Dr. Robin Mitchell, said:

"The Pre-Games Training Camp in Divonne-les-Bains is a crucial step in our athletes' journey to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

We are grateful to the Mayor and the City of Divonne-les-Bains for this partnership and to our 11 National Olympic Committees who have taken up this Pre-Games Training Camp offer.

This camp not only allows them to train intensively but also fosters a sense of unity and camaraderie between the athletes of Oceania and the community of Divonne-les-Bains.”

Overview of the Training Camp

The training camp will feature facilities, tailored training programmes, and comprehensive support services. Athletes will have access to sports infrastructure, including gyms, swimming pools, and track and field amenities, ensuring they can train at their best. The camp will also provide nutritional support and medical services to cater to the athletes' holistic well-being.

The Mayor of the City of Divonne-les-Bains, Vincent Scattolin, declared:

“We are honored to welcome athletes from Oceania to our city, which brings together more than 90 nationalities, open to the world. Divonne-les-Bains is proud to play a role in their Olympic journey and our community is delighted to support them in their preparations.

We have worked diligently to ensure they have everything they need to succeed and feel at home.”

Excitement from the Local Community

The residents of Divonne-les-Bains have shown tremendous enthusiasm in welcoming the athletes with a group of around volunteers being setup to work with the delegations. Various community events, cultural exchanges, and support programmes have been planned to integrate the athletes into the local culture, providing them with a home-away-from-home experience.

ONOC President, Dr. Robin Mitchell, added:

"This camp is not just about training; it is about building relationships, sharing cultures, and preparing mentally and physically for the challenges ahead.

We are confident that our athletes will benefit greatly from this experience."

ONOC Secretary General, Ricardo Blas, said:

“Our 11 NOCs have been able to access this opportunity through an IOC Games subsidy with additional support from the Australian Government through the Australian Olympic Committee.

Our coordination efforts in Divonne-les-Bains are being led by long-time ONOC partner Greg Harney, a former staff of the US Olympic and Paralympic Committee, supported by ONOC Medical Commission members Dr Belladonna Potoi and Cathy Wong, ONOC Executive Director, Inoke Bainimarama, and ONOC Chief Communications Officer (Acting), Shivneel Narayan.”
