Maintaining discipline was crucial for Team Fiji Men’s Rugby Sevens playmaker Iowane Teba when he was drafted into the national squad.

Competing for the number 10 jersey with former Olympians, Teba was not intimidated but held them in high regard.
The competition was between him and two Olympic gold medalists, Vatemo Ravouvou and Napolioni Bolaca, who won gold in Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020, respectively.
"I thank God for the talent He gave me," Teba said.
"I know that it takes hard work and discipline to play at this level.
“With former Olympians on the side, including Waisea Nacuqu, Napo, and Ravouvou, it was tough competing for the same position.
“I had so much respect for them, and I’m grateful to the coaching panel for seeing me fit for the position."
The 31-year-old native of Nawaido, Solevu, Bua debuted for Fiji at the HSBC 2021 Dubai 7s.
"I have played sevens in the series in several countries – the US, New Zealand, and the United Arab Emirates, but nothing beats playing at the Olympic Games," Teba added.
"The atmosphere at the Olympics is different and unique."
Teba played for the domestic club Raiwasa Taveuni in 2021, which dominated numerous local Rugby Sevens tournaments in Fiji.
"I did not dream that one day I’d play at the Olympics when I started playing rugby back in Savusavu.
“I thank God because His plans are greater than mine."
Teba shares maternal links to Nukubalavu, Savusavu, where he grew up.
