Despite Team Fiji’s silver medal finish at the Stade de France during the Olympic Games Paris 2024, the skipper said they were unsuccessful in their mission.
“We came for the gold, but we have to settle for the silver,” he said.
“We expected theFrench to perform like that. It was unfortunate to lose in the final.
“We apologise for falling short to a good France side,” Tuwai added.
With two Olympic gold medals, a silver, the World Rugby Sevens Player of the Decade Award, and a Rugby Sevens World Cup title, the 35-year-old Buca man indicated that the Paris 2024 final was probably his last match for Fiji.
The Fiji captain hopes to take on the next challenge in coaching.
“I don’t see myself playing in the future for now.
“I’m glad that I was selected again to play in Paris,” Tuwai said.
With his wealth of experience, standing by head coach Osea Kolinisau to guide the national sevens side is on his mind.
The duo played together and won Fiji’s first Olympic gold medal at the Olympic Games Rio 2016 in Brazil.
“I thank the fans back home.
“Thank you for the support through the years,” he added.
Meanwhile, Kolinisau said he will consider the veteran for another HSBC Sevens Tournament if he is fit to play.
