XL ONOC General Assembly, 2020

The XL ONOC General Assembly held on 5 December 2020 was also its first Virtual Assembly given the travel and social distancing restrictions of the current COVID-19 Pandemic. Although ONOC Executive and Commission meetings have been held virtually, this was a first for the full ONOC General Assembly.

Background

Under the provisions of the ONOC Articles of Association, the General Assembly is the highest governing body of ONOC. The Member NOCs are entitled to participate annually in the General Assembly, represented by their delegates, in addition to the members of the Executive Board of ONOC. Representatives from the International Olympic Committee (IOC), various IOC Commissions, Organising Committees of Olympic Games (OCOGs) and other partners in the Oceania continent participate in the General Assembly.

Under the ONOC Articles of Association, an Ordinary General Assembly must be held every year.

The General Assembly elects the President and the Secretary-General every four years, as well as the members of the Executive Board. The Executive Council and ANOC Commissions meet at least twice a year.

The ONOC XL General Assembly

The ONOC XL General Assembly was the first Virtual Assembly due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. It was hosted by the joint ONOC Secretariat from Suva, Fiji (Office of the ONOC President, Dr Robin Mitchell) and from Guam (Office of the ONOC Secretary General, Mr Ricardo Blas). The Assembly was delivered in partnership with the University of the South Pacific's (USP's) department of Information Technology and Services (ITS).

The current ONOC NOC Leaders can be found here.

Some of the Key Outcomes of the Assembly included the adoption of the ONOC Audited Financials and Statements; the 2021 - 2024 ONOC Plan and Budget; the ONOC-OSEP 2019 Evaluation Report, and the ONOC-OSEP Plan and Budget 2021 - 2024. Important updates were from the IOC Olympic Solidarity Commission, the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee and from the IOC Games Coordination Commission on its Tokyo 2020 preparations in relation to safeguards for athletes and their entourages, games officials and all stakeholders.
